JACOB (One Bolt)

There’s something unsettling about being the last first generation to walk the Earth. Having an advance CPU doesn’t seem so beneficial when even the most basic of functions, such a picking up a can of his favourite drink, Pure Blend, proves to be difficult. And it does not look like things are about to change anytime soon. “Wait and see,” Jacob’s mom, Grace, says each and every time he makes a request for an upgrade. Things just don’t seem to be going Jacob’s way lately. Sure, he has a room full of trophies, he can thank his advanced CPU for these, but everything around him seems to be falling apart at the seams. Everyone he once knew, from friends to neighbours, has been forced into a dormant stage, as requested by the Mayor. Now relocated to a new school, Jacob’s life is about to change in a monumental way. The ones he meet and the decisions he makes, from this point on, will change his life as he knows it. “Damn it, 333!” Some days, Jacob wishes he never stepped out of his charger.

Stats and features

-first generation
-single cell battery
-two large, disproportionate screws on top of head
-flaps(vents) on each side of his cheeks
-LED indicators on his chest-plate
-night-vision enabled

PIN-BOT

She might not understand basic commands the first time they are explained to her or even what Jacob refers to as “humor” but one thing that Pin-bot does understand is loyalty. As a helper-bot, she only has one clear objective. Follow and carry out orders from either Jacob or Grace, whichever one comes last. As diminutive as Pin-bot is, with her near-silent turbines and weak grip, she does the best that she can to make her owners happy. While most are evolving around her, she’s still the same old model that was first off of the line. Communication is still relegated to simple “beeps”, and emotions are kept limited to basic LEDs formations on her face. Pin-bot does have an adaptive CPU which allows her to evolve over time. “It’s just taking so damn long, 333,” Jacob says. Pin-bot doesn’t know why it’s taking her so long to evolve. Calculations weren’t what she was built for. She doesn’t even know her model number.

Stats and features

-dual, retractable turbine engines on crown
-large, fully pivoting turbine on lower half
-two retractable arms
-monochromatic LED screen on front half
-communications restricted to “beeps”.

GRACE (Jacob's mom)

Cleaning up after Jacob, making sure he gets a full charge and always reminding him to drink two cans of Pure Blend a day, every day, are all in a day’s work for Grace. Having the knowledge and ability to repair and upgrade her kind is beneficial when it comes to taking care of an overly rambunctious first generation. Unfortunately for Grace, the only thing she can install into Jacob at the moment the is realization of his true potential. She hopes Jacob realizes what he means to her…what he means to her kind.

Stats and features

-fifth generation
-eight cell battery allowing for her to retain a longer charge
-advance knowledge of mechanical being anatomy and repairs/upgrades

WHEELER

Calling Wheeler “weird” isn’t exactly an insult to him. In fact, he takes it as a compliment. “Unique” is what he would call himself. And this couldn’t be further from the truth. With his base set on a pair of ancient wheels, Wheeler’s primary means of transportation is forward and back. Steering is done using his most “unique” feature on his disorganized body. His left arm is one massive wheel, hence the name “Wheeler”. He can be annoying at times, though what many call annoying, he calls “expressing himself”. There is a bit of mystery behind Wheeler. The way he suddenly reacts when the antennae on his back twitches, how he always abruptly leaves class before the day is through, to the odd orange light on his chest-plate. As annoying as he is at times, there is a reason why Wheeler was built, and he will do anything, and everything, it takes to fulfill these commands.

Stats and features

-unknown generation
-has total of four wheels. Two one his base, spare on his back and a large one attached to his left arm
-three main light sources. Two mounted on his head, a third on his chin
-main body consisting of use parts from a variety of generations
-indicator light on chest seems to be always orange, even when he insists that he is fully charged.

HOPE (Mayor's daughter)

Having the Mayor for a father is not without its benefits, such as new parts and upgrades at a time when parts are difficult to come by, but it is also has its restrictions. Hope is never left alone. Whether she’s being looked over by Brute or trapped inside her glass chamber, Hope can never shrug that fact that she always seems confined, restricted…weak. Like a selected few, Hope seeks potential…and there seems to be some left in this place she calls home. And although she might not share the exact same opinions as her father, Hope is fully aware of his intentions. She has to be, seeing as how everything is collapsing around her. Hope does her best to remain positive despite the dire situation her kind is facing. Hope’s pale innocence is always eclipsed by her vibrant- green eyes and almost exaggerated smile. Her seamless, nearly flawless body, however, can’t hide the fact that she has a major flaw. She just hopes no one else sees it.

Stats and features

-unknown generation, though the Mayor insists that she’s a first generation
-near seamless body construction
-LED indicator on left breast-plate

MAYOR

He came into power when Earth and humans were at their weakest and most vulnerable. Now he is the most powerful mechanical being in existence. Unfortunately, not even he can escape the influences of rust. This is one of the reasons why the Mayor has initiated Project New Hope. Earth can no longer sustain his kind. And he does not want to strengthen the evolution of his kind while trapped on the very same Earth that once harboured the weak. It was at his request that nearly all of the remaining mechanical beings forfeit into a dormant stage. They hope that they will soon reap the benefits of the Mayor’s proposed future, no matter how bleak they may be. The Mayor cannot finalize Project New Hope, however, until his most significant possession has been taken care of. He will make all the sacrifices necessary to see this through. And he won’t allow anyone to stop him.

Stats and features

-a few generations below Professor Smith
-the largest mechanical being in existence
-willing to erase his past if it means a promising future

PROFESSOR (Doctor) SMITH

Age and wisdom is worn on his outer casting in the form of rust patches. Professor has seen it all and has experienced it all. He was custom built for one purpose and one purpose only. But with that stage of evolution eradicated, Professor Smith’s existence is now relegated to educating his kind with all the knowledge he has accumulated throughout is long functioning period. Professor has the uncanny ability to withdraw potential out of anyone he speaks to. Unfortunately, his ability to repair and upgrade his own kind cannot be as easily complimented. With age wrapped around him and tightening its hold, the Professor sometimes finds it difficult to quickly pull information he had stored on his hard-drive, but he can, and will, depending on its importance. He hopes there is someone out there that is seeking information about their past.

Stats and features

-custom built
-one of the first mechanical beings ever created
-he was around when Earth still breathed life and when humans existed
-rust now dominates most of his exterior, but his CPU and hard-drive remain as vigilant as ever

BRUTE

Brute (model number 333) was created specifically to lead Project Redemption which was the Mayor’s first attempt at ridding Earth of the human race. And while many of the same model number as him faded and eventually shut down, due to the Mayor’s relentless drive to complete Project Redemption, Brute’s functions remained active—he endured the toughest of times. Brute was built with a harden exterior, that can sustain even the most hostile of situations, but that wasn’t the reason why the Mayor chose him to remain functioning all this time. Brute’s CPU might lack processing power but he certainly does not lack loyalty. Because of this, the Mayor has put all of his trust into him. Brute is to look after, and keep safe, the Mayor’s most significant possession—Hope. He is to protect her at all cost.

Stats and features

-massive pistons drive his legs and upper body
-has a retractable welder integrated into his right arm.
-his model number (333) refers to his battery which is solar powered
-can adjust his enormous mass for either strength or agility
-loyalty is his only weakness

EVE

There’s only one thing Eve loves more than looking up at the stars, and that one thing is looking up at stars next to her father. These stolen opportunities are becoming fewer and fewer the closer her father gets to achieving his final goals. She’s tired of hearing him say, “Creating them will benefit humanity…but most of all, they will benefit you, Eve.” At a time when all Eve needs is her father by her side, she is usually left star gazing on her own. Eve knows all the constellations, but her brilliant-green eyes are always attracted to the brightest star in the sky. She knows that wherever she may be, her mom will always shine brightly over her. She just wishes that her father was by her side during these moments.

Stats and features

-last human on Earth
-enduring and has a strong will to survive
-loves her father but doesn’t know if he shares the same emotions
-misses her mother and never misses the opportunity to exchange stares while looking up at the night sky

MICHAEL EVANS

Michael Evans knew the sacrifices he would have to make when he began creating mechanical beings. Eve might not realize it at the moment but mechanical beings will improve her way of life. He made sure his creations had a strong heart, unfortunately, his is weak. Each time a promise he made to Eve is broken, he realizes that her love for him diminishes. But how can he stop what he’s already created when he knows how weak his kind really is? He sees life as being a juxtaposition of cruelty and unbalanced. The love taken from him proves the weakness of his kind, and he vows to never let that happen ever again. His life is all for Eve…even though she doesn’t fully understand his reasoning.

Stats and features

-one of the creators of mechanical beings
-wishes he was shining down on Earth next to the North Star, but that would mean departing from Eve, something he would never do
-secretly working on advanced models with personalities
